Your soul is always talking to you – it is that gentle whisper that says “fly, fly, fly”, it is the insistent feeling that “there is more to life”, it is the voice that tells you that you can go after your Big Dreams. For many of us, the soul’s whisper is so quiet it barely registers on our consciousness, except as a vague feeling that we are missing something.
And if we are not actively listening to that whisper, we are missing something. We are missing the wisdom, the brilliance and the joy that listening to our soul brings. It is not something that only a handful of people are capable of. It is not something that needs years of training to do. It is not something that needs you to sit in Lotus position for four hours. It is easy. Everyone has a soul, everyone’s soul is talking, all we need to do is tune in and listen.
Here’s the easiest way I know to hear your soul: Take a deep breath. And another. And one more. Now ask yourself “what does my soul want me to know today?” Now wait for an answer – if you’ve never listened to your soul before it might be a bit quiet or a little slow in coming through. Be patient. Take the time you need, and hear your soul’s message.
If you practice that every day for a month, you will learn to recognise the voice of your soul (and you’ll realise that you’ve been hearing it all your life, you just didn’t always listen!), and you will find it starts to get easier with practice (just like everything does). You will also notice that some days it is easier than others to hear your soul, so you can start to figure out your personal soul-connection do’s and don’ts.
Here are a few questions to consider to help you with those do’s and don’ts:
1. How do you tune into your soul’s frequency? My soul lives on joy.fm, so I need to tune to that – I don’t have to be joyful every moment, but the better I feel, the better the signal will be (conversely, sometimes the signal is stronger when you are at rock bottom…but I don’t recommend going that way!). notice if feeling good helps you tune to yoursoul.fm.
2. What strengthens/weakens your soul signal? For example, if I am tired, I cannot hear my soul as clearly. For some people, tiredness takes away their resistance and they can actually hear more clearly. What affects your ability to hear your soul? For me, exercise, meditation, writing, dancing, walking, nature all strengthen my connection to my soul. I think it’s because when I do what my soul loves, I am on the right ‘wavelength’. Being tired, stressed out, overstimulated, having too much on my mind all weaken the signal between me and my soul.
3. How much time and space does your soul need to be heard? I often ask clients to tell me what their soul is telling them right now. They will go quiet for about 4 seconds, then say “I don’t know, I can’t hear anything”. You need to give your soul the time to get through. Experiment with writing it down – this really works for me, because I have the attention span of a gnat if I’m just ‘sitting thinking’, but if I’m writing I can stay more focused. You can also write down any of the thoughts that are getting in the way of you hearing your soul, like “is that my soul? Is that it? Am I doing it right? That can’t be right” and so on. Get them out of your head so that there is peace and quiet for your soul’s voice to be heard.
Here’s a message from my soul to you “Your soul wants to be heard. She wants to hear you. She knows what brilliance you are capable of. She knows what brings you joy. She wants you to fall in love with your life and follow your Big Dreams. She wants you to dance joyously through life with a smile on your face and a song in your heart…and she stands ready to help you do that…if you will just listen.”
Your soul will NEVER tell you how much you suck! She sees the perfection of you even when you’re struggling to see it yourself. She believes in you and your Big Dream, and will help you take the necessary leaps of faith to make your life amazing…you just need to take the time to pay attention to what she is sharing with you.
